Fried Egg & Rice Breakfast Bowl

It is interesting to find specific food similarities between different cultures. When my mom wanted to make an easy dinner, she would fry up a couple eggs with soy sauce as our protein. There was always a bowl of rice, of course, but it was kept separate from the eggs.

After getting married, my Japanese husband asked me to make one of his favorite breakfast dishes…fried over easy egg served on top of rice with soy sauce. It was essentially the same dish, but with all the ingredients combined and eaten for breakfast. Super easy and filling!

Fried Egg & Rice Breakfast Bowl

Ingredients:

1 egg
1 bowl of cooked rice
soy sauce

Directions:

1. Add oil to a small fry pan. When the oil is sizzling, crack the egg into the pan; be careful not to break the yolk. Fry until the bottom of the egg is crispy and the yolk is over easy. DO NOT OVERCOOK THE YOLK. The yolk must be runny for this recipe.

2. Make rice per your preferred method. Add a scoop of hot rice to a bowl. Gently lay the fried egg on top of the rice. Pour over as much soy sauce as you like. Using a spoon or chopsticks, break the yolk and mix it into the rice.

Nom nom breakfast!
